In June 2009, two of our physicians began participating in Fauquier Health's new Wound Healing Center. In conjunction with several other physicians in the community and a great team of wound care nurses and technicians, Piedmont Internal Medicine's Dr. Joseph David and Dr. Kevin McCarthy working one half-day weekly in the new center located at 493 Blackwell Road in the Warrenton Professional Center. Their work there focuses on the healing of chronic wounds and ulcers, using a variety of specialized treatments, including therapy in two brand new state-of-the-art hyperbaric oxygen chambers, when indicated. If you know of anyone in need of chronic wound management, please call the center at 540-316-4325 to schedule an evaluation.
On Friday, October 2, 2009 one of our cherished nurses, Sara Beckel, was fatally struck by another vehicle on her way to work. Sara was a wonderful nurse, colleague, and friend, and her sudden and tragic death left us all stunned and very saddened. We pray for her peace and that of her family and friends. In August 2009, Dr. Sherry Maragh relocated her Dermatology practice, Northern Virginia Dermatology, from our office suites, where she was sharing space, to brand new space on the ground floor of our building. We are happy to announce that Drs. Kevin McCarthy, Joseph David and Jae Lee are among Washingtonian Magazine's "Top Doctors" for 2010.
In August 2010, Piedmont Internal Medicine expanded its laboratory from "simple" to "moderately complex" with enhanced space, equipment and staff - giving us much more capability for performing on-site quality testing! The lab has met all criteria for Laboratory Accreditation by COLA -- a national healthcare accreditation organization that certifies quality and accuracy!
Flagpole Ceremony
In June 2010, Piedmont Internal Medicine dedicated a magnificent new flagpole at the entranceway to Piedmont Professional Center in memory of Sara Beckel, LPN, who we lost to a fatal car crash last year. In October 2011, Dr. Michelle Bell joined our practice as a full-time associate physician, relocating here with her husband and son from Wisconsin. Dr. Bell offers comprehensive primary care to teens, adults, and seniors and is open to new patients.
Dr. William Simpson has been recognized as a 2011 Top Doctor by both U.S. News and World Report and Castle Connolly Medical Ltd. (publisher of America's Top Doctors), using nominations submitted by other doctors in the region and reviewed by their physician-led research teams.
